I have a question for anyone out there who gets this sort of thing.
Recent discoveries studying the accretion disk of a very heavy galactic core black hole seem to suggest that ‘the surface zone’ around a black hole is “moving” at a speed close to the speed of light. I see a problem here.
Black holes are discontinuities in space-time, where the normal function of matter ends. In gravity fields where the escape velocity of the region is bigger than the speed of light, several things seem to happen; i.e. (i) time flows slower, eventually slowing down to zero at precisely the place around a black hole where the escape velocity is C, relative to the rest of the universe. So when falling in to a sufficiently massive black hole, anyone falling in might see the universe fast forward for billions of years behind (above) them…
Objects moving at the speed of light experience the same weirdness, and possibly even weirder. A material entity moving close to the speed of light will (i) experience an increase in mass relative to the rest of the universe, i.e. at C the moving object weighs infinite; (ii) the object in motion will experience the same uncanny subjective time dilation as experienced by matter in a very heavy gravity field and (iii) objects moving at speed close to C will experience relative shortening of the forward moving dimension.
So let me get this straight – matter swirling around the outer rim of a black hole may be (i) experience a considerably increase in relative mass, (ii) will experience a time dillation and (iii) may experience a shorting of forward facing (circular) space dimensions when moving around the black hole.
This seems to suggest that in a rotating black hole the mass of the black hole may in fact me spread out in a flattened disk rather than a point like object, because of centrifugal spin. It might also mean that time moves slowest in a region away from the center of the black hole, and (most bizarrely) the black hole may develop a region in its central region over time where the escape velocity is lower than C. In other words, a black hole might turn in to a donut object rather than a point object.
Please anyone correct me if I am making the wrong assumptions.
