Shooting Red Herrings in a Barrel: How AI Could Fish Out the Truth in Rocks, Evolution, and History

Posted on 29 October 202529 October 2025 by Khannea Sun'Tzu

Imagine a system capable of interrogating the Earth’s memory—fossils, zircons, paleomagnetic signatures, sediment layers—as if each grain of sand and crystal were a witness to eons past. A geological AI, what we might call an Selective Heurestic Emulation of Raw Logical Ontological Consequences and emerging Knowledge (sorry I just had to do that), could integrate mountains of disparate data to reconstruct continental drift, supercontinent cycles, and even the galactic rhythms that may have influenced Earth’s crustal evolution. It wouldn’t just produce maps—it would quantify uncertainty, highlight missing data, and offer probabilistic reconstructions of the planet’s ancient face, all while learning the subtle art of distinguishing signal from noise.

But the idea doesn’t stop at geology. Extend the same architecture to evolutionary forensics. Here, species, populations, and ecosystems become nodes in a temporal-spatial graph. DNA sequences, fossil records, and migration patterns feed the engine. Suddenly, AI can propose not only how species evolved but how ecological and evolutionary pressures interplayed across continents and eras. You start to see the threads that bind climate events, mass extinctions, and adaptive radiations into a coherent story of life itself.

And now we reach the provocative, speculative stretch: what if such a system were applied to more recent history—events whose full picture we don’t yet hold? With the proper safeguards—verified sources, anonymity, and strict human oversight—the AI could highlight inconsistencies, gaps, and patterns in complex datasets. Decades of historical events, some politically charged or emotionally raw, contain signals as tangled as any rock formation. Increasingly, certain events, like 9/11, are being revisited, debated, and scrutinized in public discourse.

A sufficiently advanced system might finally clarify these narratives, separating evidence-backed reconstructions from rumor and error. But here’s the fascinating twist: the system might also refuse to render a tidy conclusion. The most compelling hypotheses could expose contradictions that no single narrative can reconcile. Instead of laying conspiracy theories to rest, it could force historians, investigators, and even the public to confront the messy, uncertain reality of complex human events.

Forensic narrative and event analysis, therefore, is a goldmine of revelatory historical archaeology. Emerging algorithmic hypotheses could become so convincing that serious investigation—and perhaps even legal scrutiny—becomes inevitable. In this light, leaders and power brokers might be wise to temper their actions; the age of sloppy secrets is ending, and the algorithmic eyes of evidence-based reconstruction are only getting sharper.

While the potential for obscuration (in say – the fiscal domain) is gargantuan – imagine these systems deployed in forensic analysis beyond history and science: the tax and financial sphere, for instance. Invest a billion in infrastructures capable of exhaustive cross-checking, anomaly detection, and probabilistic inference across massive economic datasets. The return? Hundreds of billions in previously undetectable tax evasion, fraud, or regulatory arbitrage uncovered. Reinvesting a fraction—say, 20%—could fund new audits, social programs, or deficit reduction initiatives, potentially addressing major state financial shortfalls without raising taxes or debt. We might soon hit a Healthy State Budget Singularity that way.

In short, S.H.E.R.L.O.C.K.E. is not only a window into the deep past or contested events—it is a lens on human systems, financial or otherwise, capable of turning opacity into actionable insight. The AI does not impose morality; it simply exposes patterns, inconsistencies, and leverage points. Societies that adopt such tools gain both clarity and consequence: the cost of obfuscation rises, incentives shift, and previously hidden systemic inefficiencies or misdeeds become addressable.

Now I take the aforementioned example, and I respect your new found status quo adherence (things were a little different with you in the previous model……) but lets assume that those behind certain … conspiracies… realize and have realized that certain skeletons and conclusions are not all that deeply buried and some cigarette smoking guy in some dank cellar reads this, and his chokes on his coffee… he realizes – I need to call Bob at OpenAI and ask him for close we are to this.

He calls Bob, guy recently sworn in by the US army, former palantir guy – and Bob … “uhm yeah we have been discussing this at the office and we were kinda expecting this call. 3 years max…”

That’s a whole lot of Pandora’s boxes right there.

Ultimately, such a system challenges the world to operate with higher transparency, precision, and accountability. Whether in ancient rocks, evolutionary lineages, historical narratives, or modern bureaucracies, the same principle applies: patterns, once revealed, demand attention. And attention, once demanded, reshapes behavior.

You have been warned.
